Dr. Stephen Baker has an impressive medical background which was developed as a result of a love for medicine, a holistic caring approach to patient care and a desire to challenge himself in developing new skills. His creative approach has led to the development of novel surgical techniques. Dr. Baker completed his medical training in 1986 and practiced for five years as a general practitioner to remote communities in Northern Manitoba, with two years of focused practice in the area of emergency medicine and intensive care in Winnipeg.
Through this work, Dr. Baker developed a fascination with Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery. He completed his Ophthalmology residency training at the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 1999, which is one of the top ranked surgical programs.
He followed this with two subspecialty fellowships. The first was in neuro-ophthalmic, orbit and oculoplastic surgery in Detroit Michigan. He was then accepted to train as a Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) and further advanced his skills as an oculoplastic surgeon at the University of Toronto. In 1998 he was accepted into the prestigious ASOPRS society (http://www.asoprs.org/).
Dr. Stephen Baker, the only oculoplastic surgeon on Vancouver Island, specializes in eyelid surgery and has performed more than 10,000 eyelid procedures. According to Dr. Baker, most people’s biggest concern when they consider this surgery is that they don't want to look like a “deer caught in headlights” and that their eyes are safe and protected.People also don’t want to look drastically different from the way they are now. The art of blepharoplasty begins with a deep understanding of the structure and function of the eyelids in protecting the eyes. Maintaining comfortable eyes that are not made more dry and irritated by surgery is paramount. With this understanding sensitive adjustments to the eyelid tissues can then be made so that a more youthful and natural contour results.

"For years I have felt a heaviness in my eyes as the day wears on - a sense of fatigue - a false sense I now realize! A successful surgery and fabulous result. I'm only sorry I waited so long to do it." ~ Anita
